Shining in Solitude
How was your weekend? I had a much needed relaxing weekend after spending a lot of recent time traveling. Abby and Carol went on a weekend getaway to Georgia to celebrate their engagement and I am beyond thrilled for them! I buckled up on my Auntie Jess duties and dog-sat Brandi. She is so sweet and cuddly, and was my sidekick all weekend. She brings such joy to 324. Brandi is pictured below.
Solitude is important to regularly endure. Shine in the silence. Having moments of solitude for yourself each day strengthens and grounds you. I have always been a very independent person. I love socializing and enjoying other peoples’ company, but I also thrive in solo settings as I run errands, drive around, or unwind at night as the world is fast asleep while I’m a night owl.
It can certainly be hard shifting from dependency or co-dependency mindsets as I have observed through many people in various environments. Whether you are single or taken, developing an inner sense of self-independence is empowering. Not knowing many people down here since moving has encouraged me to embrace my self-confidence and pave the way towards creating lasting memories for myself down here in Florida. You are the one in charge of your thoughts, surroundings, choices, and how you choose to live out each day.
If you’re at peace and truly love who you are, then you are fully capable of living your life for you, and then likely choosing to share your life with someone who adds value to it. Enjoying your own company is a true testament of creating your own happiness. I spent a cozy weekend in, hanging out with Brandi, catching up on Love Is Blind, baking the viral TikTok cinnamon rolls recipe (check out my TikTok page for a video of it linked here: https://www.tiktok.com/@jesspuch/video/7174792557845581099?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 ), journaling, and Face-Timing two of my best friends from out of state.
Having “me time” is soothing for the soul. It allows your body to reset and feel rejuvenated. I work in a job where I am talking all week long, so allowing my body and voice to rest, and fully unwind with no plans lined up, did my body and mind wonders. You don't always have to be "on" all of the time. It is healthy to let your mind and energy power down and rest up for a bit. Who else's brain is always on overdrive? Mine sure is! We all deserve the time to take care of our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
"In solitude, the mind gains strength and learns to lean upon itself." – Laurence Sterne
I encourage you to carve out some time this week just for you. Go for a drive blasting your favorite music, order out or cook some of your favorite food, watch a movie that you have been wanting to see, etc. Whatever it may be, I hope you prioritize self-care and your happiness. Find joy in the peaceful moments just as much as in the sociable ones. Slow down, take time for yourself, and ease yourself into the busy holiday season.
Remember to stay humble and kind, always!
