Reminiscing on the Road

As we are in full swing into summer, I have slowed down and have found more time to get together with long-time friends and reminisce on our past memories while also making some new ones. Two of my best friends Abby and Carol, moved to Florida earlier this year and I have not seen them since they left New Hampshire. Abby was in town for a few days, and I got to reunite with her yesterday. I went to pick her up to bring her over to my family’s BBQ, and it has been years since I drove to her childhood home. On my way there, I was thinking back to how many times I took that route to go over her house, and it felt like just yesterday that we were in high school. It is wild how time passes by and where our lives have taken us. The drive was so nostalgic, but the memories are so vivid in my brain that I am in awe of just how much we have grown and evolved in the past 11 years.

Fair warning – When Abby and I reminisce about our high school days, there is no stopping us. The endless cackling to the point we have tears in our eyes is unmatched. Those are the kinds of friendships that are so special and strong. You have a blast no matter what you are doing. I was just in Florida a month ago, but spontaneously booked a flight to go see Abby and Carol at the end of this month, so Florida here I come again!

Late night drives, especially in the summer are one of my favorite things to do. There is just something about driving around and finding a spot to park your car with your friends that the deepest and greatest conversations are had. I have loved and cherished those moments ever since I was able to drive. Reminiscing on past memories while also going deep and seeking advice from your friends with a cool summer breeze and music blasting is so good for the soul. It is so important to unwind from busy schedules and stresses, and immerse yourself in the present moment.

Never forget your roots and where you came from. Because time slips by so quickly, the memories I have made over the years feel like they were just yesterday. The lessons learned and growth made while remaining so close to long-time friends no matter where your paths take each other is remarkable. Hold on tight to those core memories, but seek to make new ones because whatever is in store in the future will be even better than you can begin to imagine.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” – Dr. Seuss
