Celebrating & Surprises
My younger brother Michael turned 21 this past weekend, and my parents and I drove up to Maine to take him out for a birthday lunch to celebrate. We headed to Portland, Maine with not a clue of where to eat. As we approached a traffic light, there were two cars side by side in front of us – one from Maine and one from New Hampshire. They had the EXACT same license plate numbers, but both from different states waiting side by side together at the same moment in time. We were all stunned as that was a once in a lifetime and fated sight.
Michael handed me his phone on our drive with a Google search pulled up of “Best Restaurants in Portland, Maine.” I scrolled through dozens of restaurants and their menus, and randomly decided on The King’s Head Pub in Portland, Maine. Michael agreed that their menu looked good, so that was the winner. The pub was tucked away as a hidden gem, and had a cozy atmosphere.
As we were waiting for our meals, I glanced over at the bar and casually sitting on the corner seat was the one and only American Country music singer, Scotty McCreery. I thought I was seeing things and looked over at my mom and said, “Is that or is that not Scotty McCreery sitting at the bar?” My mom said, “Wow that looks just like him, but I don’t think it is.” I was convinced it was him. It looked so much like him for it not to be, or else he has a secret twin that we don’t know about. Not even 5 seconds after my mom said that, she goes, “Wait, Jess, that’s definitely him.” Our meals came out and I knew I had to go over and say hello. My mom and I have followed Scotty’s journey ever since he won American Idol in 2011. We have always admired his talented voice, but most importantly, his down-to-earth and kind-hearted personality.
I tapped Scotty on the shoulder and struck up a conversation. I don’t even remember saying my name because I was so excited. He mentioned he was in town to perform an outdoor concert in Portland, Maine later that evening. Through our brief conversation, it felt like I was talking to a friend of mine. Scotty truly lived up to being a humble and kind human, just as he has always come across! As you know, my blog’s ending motto each week is: Remember to stay humble and kind, always! Scotty emulated just that! We took a picture together, which is pictured below. I wished him good luck in his concert, and my mom and I went back to our table to eat. I hope to get the chance to see Scotty McCreery perform live on stage one day!
After seeing those identical license plates earlier that day, I realized everything has its perfect timing and is meant to happen for a reason. I could have decided to pick another random restaurant, or we could have gotten to Maine an hour later than planned. I was blessed to meet Scotty by pure chance, and I am so glad I did! He is an incredible person who I have supported for over a decade, and will continue to do so in the years to come. Thank you so much Scotty, for taking time out of your lunch to chat with my mom and I. I hope the concert wasn’t too cold outside – haha!
Never pass up an opportunity to go somewhere new, as you never know what the experience will lead to. Take risks and don’t be shy. Continue to pursue your goals and passions because you never know whom you will end up crossing paths with! Adventure awaits. Are you ready?
Remember to stay humble and kind, always!
