Calling All “Lobstah” Lovers

My family and I ventured up to Boothbay Harbor, Maine to experience the Cabbage Island Clambake. I discovered this New England attraction on a viral TikTok video, and it was certainly worth the hype! Your fare includes a narrated boat cruise to Cabbage Island and your New England-style clambake meal, which consists of: select complimentary beverages, and then to eat: fish chowder, two lobsters, steamed clams, a steamed potato, onion, and egg, a corn on the cob, and a scrumptious slice of blueberry cake.

What I love is that this business and island is family owned and run for decades. The boat is named the “Bennie Alice,” who was the Moore family’s late matriarch. The hospitality and family’s company is top-notch, and you feel like your own family is hosting you. In the wise words of my dad, Bill: “The experience was pretty exceptional.” It left us all raving about it for the past week. If you want to experience a New England seafood feast, then this is the perfect way to wrap up your summer!

What I came to learn was that not much advertising goes in to spreading the word about this clambake – which is only run for roughly 12 weeks of the year. It is locally advertised, but other than that, all business comes in through word of mouth. On our boat cruise home we started talking to two families that travelled from out of state – one from Chicago, Illinois, and another from Texas. Both families discovered the Cabbage Island Clambake from TikTok as well, which goes to show just how powerful social media is.

I highly recommend gathering your friends and family and making the trip to Maine to experience this one-of-a-kind attraction for yourself! I know our family will continue to make this an annual outing, and I hope you will too!
